Update: (September 2006) - Go to Football News The item below is how we wanted to go forward but unfortunately things did not go to plan as they should have. The system as described lasted for two seasons only. It seems that egos take over and the Club system is put on the back burner. As a result we have no football teams operating out of Tyne at present. The Club on the other hand is thriving with quality youth work. We hope one day to resume our love affair with junior football but only if it is administered correctly. Latest: See Football News.
The ‘old’ Tyne Boys’ Club has a tradition of excellence going back to the mid 60’s and it is something we are very proud of. However, we are not and have never been a football club and as a result we suffer in comparison to the likes of North Shields and Whitley Bay Football Clubs. The members of the ‘new’ Tyne come to us because they like the club set-up and then join in with the football side of things and once every 3 or 4 years we unearth a great bunch of lads (at the moment) who win league titles and cups which is great. At the same time we also cater for the lads who simply want to play football and we provide them with the opportunity to do so regardless of their talent. This is fine as far as it goes but we lack continuity and if a manager leaves for whatever reason (he is usually a parent of a player) the team is set back and has to start again from scratch. In an effort to prevent this I have been working closely with Percy Main Amateurs FC to see if we could find a new way of doing things. After lots of discussion and meetings with ALL of the present managers it was decided that we would pool our resources and become one big football family. The official title will be Percy Main Tyne Youth & Community Centre FC. Obviously this is a mouthful but we think the younger teams will get tagged Tyne and the older teams Percy Main, which is fine. We have the system up and running for the current season 2004-05 which includes Under 8/9/10’s small sided teams. The Under 11/12/13/14/16/17 or 18’s play in the Coast Colts' League. At the top of the system the first team of Percy Main FC who play in the Northern Alliance Premier League. If this is not the way ahead then I am not sure what the alternative would be. The status quo, as far as I am concerned, is not an option because we would not be offering the young people the best football structure available to them. We at Tyne and Percy Main Amateurs FC are working closely with the NFA and The Coast Colts’ League and also the NACYP. It is very important to all parents and footballers alike to understand that this is not a sell out but it is a way of improving our football provision at Tyne. We hope to become a Community Football Club and also a Charter Football Cub recognised by the Football Association. All managers/coaches/trainers will not only have police clearance to work with young people but will be encouraged to take FA Coaching Badges as well as First Aid qualifications. Tyne has guaranteed ALL of the managers who have attended the meetings that we will help with funding for training courses/coaching badges etc. and ALL were happy to go along with this, with the exception of our outgoing football secretary(2002-03) George Betham. We tried all ways to keep George on board but he chose to go his own way, we wish him well. If you would like any more information or would like to get involved -please get in touch with me directly If you have a passion for grass roots football and would like to help out with the administration please get in touch urgently. The pay is non existent and the perks are nil - but it is good fun! Contact -

I repeat: We hope one day to resume our love affair with junior football but only if it is administered correctly.
