May 2008: The Judo Club has proved so successful that a new Tuesday night session will be starting this month. initially the session will be for coach education but a members night will not be far away. Great news.
April 2008: I noticed in the visitors book that Brian Church, a member from way back, visited 'the Club' and was given the grand tour by Kevin Humby one of the staff from CAN who use Chirnside House as their home during the daytime. Brian's mam and dad, George and Mabel, were on the management committee when I was a lad and emigrated to New Zealand a few years back. We wish them well and hope they enjoy looking at the photo's taken by Brian.
March 2008 -Tempus Fugit. Sadly the 'Old Boys' are now too old and their failing bodies can no longer withstand the punishing training and 5 a side schedule that they did on Tuesday evenings. Dave Wall tells me that they now meet at the Parks for a game of bowls. The Club is therefore available for any user group that is looking for a new home.
All of the new furniture is now in place and is very comfortable. The pool table has been refurbished too and is now free to use. next job is the kitchen upgrade.
The new furniture for the social area has arrived and not only looks good but is also is very comfortable. New chairs for the Millennium Room should be delivered any day soon and along with the new tables make for a pleasant room to hold a meeting for approximately 40 delegates in comfort. In the New Year work will be begin to update the kitchen with new units, cooker, utensils etc... All of the above is a result of the money donated by former prime minister Tony Blair and chairman Graham Marsh.
The many volunteers of Tyne Youth & Community Centre are holding their second Christmas night out and have booked tables at Dominique's Restaurant in Whitley Bay on Friday evening at 8.45pm.
During the Christmas and New Year period a few of our user groups take a short break and I suggest you contact them directly for up to date information.
The Judo club's last session will be Thursday 20th December 2007 For more info contact Duncan Stewart 0773 3308294.
The Christmas party took place on Sunday 10th December in the Millennium Room and 40 invited guests enjoyed a wonderful buffet with entertainment from Gordon 'Sinatra' Smith.
The AGM of Tyne Youth & Community Centre was held on Wednesday 21st November.
The 72nd AGM of the Northumberland Clubs for Young People was held at Tyne on Tuesday 20th November 2007. The meeting took place in the Millennium Room. Presentations of NACYP Keystone Awards werepresented for voluntary service. After the formal business of the AGM an opportunity for delegates to take part in a discussion on the current and future work of Northumberland CYP and affiliated clubs and National Association of Clubs. Tea / coffee and biscuits were served at the conclusion of the meeting.
As promised Judo will once again be available at Tyne Youth & Community Centre. Starting on Wednesday 19th September 2007 the Club will host a twice weekly session on Wednesday and Thursday evenings in the gym. The classes will begin from 6pm and all ages will be catered for. Duncan Stewart (The Parks Judo Club) will be in charge and he would love you to get involved. Why not pop along to the club on a Wednesday or Thursday evening and have a chat with him.
The Club will be home for the night for a group of foreign youngsters (they are either from Latvia or Lithuania I think) as they arrive in the UK for a few weeks camping in Scotland. Their original arrival venue is not available and Sue Kirsopp, the UK based scout leader, contacted me to see if we could help. Obviously not ideal but for one night only these young people will have the 'luxury' of sleeping on the floor in the Club gym and Millennium Room. I bet they nip into Tynemouth village for a fish & chip supper. Click on the thumbnail above to see our happy campers.
Starting in August 2007, exact date to be confirmed, Duncan Stewart will be hosting Judo Classes twice weekly in the gym. Duncan was a member of the judo class that we used to host back in the days of Tyne Boys Club and it is good to see him coming back and supervising these sessions. More information and contact details will be posted as soon as I have them officially. The classes will be on Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
Sadly I have to inform you that George Betham, the chairman of FC Tynemouth, died on 3rd April 2007. On behalf of everyone connected with Tyne Youth & Community Centre may I offer our sympathy to George's family and friends. He will be sadly missed.
Thanks to the Prime Minister, The Rt Hon Tony Blair MP for making a call to Virgin Radio breakfast DJ Christian O'Connell on behalf of yours truly, Graham Marsh, on Friday 3rd November 2006. The Who's calling Christian? feature culminated in an online vote by the public and the winner was announced live on air yesterday (6th Nov '06). 2006 Update: - re football. Percy Main Tyne FC Any teams, officials and players playing under the banner of Percy Main Tyne FC are not representing either Tyne Youth & Community Centre nor Percy Main Amateurs FC as per the agreement between the two clubs. Following information received, much serious debate and advice from the County Secretary of the NACYP, Northumberland Association of Clubs for Young People, it was decided unanimously by the management committee that any and all teams who are playing under the banner of Percy Main Tyne FC are not recognised by the charitable institution (Tyne Boys' Club) better known as Tyne Youth & Community Centre. At this moment in time the club is without any registered or insured football teams. This is a very serious matter and will be addressed in due course. Any company or potential sponsor who has or may be asked for financial help should know that the the Registered Charity 522148 is not in any way receiving money or goods in kind on behalf of football by the above named teams. Nor do we seek such funding or sponsorship.
